How It Works

IANA Timezone Database

The IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) timezone database, also known as the Olson database or tz database, is the standard source of timezone information used by most operating systems and programming languages. Each timezone is identified by a region/city format such as America/New_York or Asia/Tokyo.

Tip: This tool reads timezone data directly from your browser's Intl API, which uses the IANA database built into your operating system.

UTC Offsets & DST

UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the global time standard. Each timezone has an offset from UTC, expressed in hours and minutes (e.g., UTC+05:30 for India). Many regions observe Daylight Saving Time (DST), shifting clocks forward by one hour during summer months.

Note: Offsets shown are current. They change when DST transitions occur.
